Half of a Lemon

Take a giant, yellow lemon and cut it in half.
Bury in the dirt one half of the lemon.
Dogs sniff out the prize.
Dogs dig like they are escaping to the Big World.
Bella finds the lemon first.
Leo wants it. Bad.
Dogs frolic all over with their prize.
Mom comes and takes away all their fun.

The things that they find on this property are amazing. I have no idea where the lemon came from. Seriously. When I took it from Bella, it smelled fresh and the inside looked freshly cut then squeezed. Weird. The vinca (sp) holds many prizes and the dogs bring them up to us. They bring up things like old action figures that the kids have lost, a beer bottle (Coors, sigh), and a hose sprayer. Most of the time, they drop the prize when we ask them to, but Leo trotted all over with the action figure before we got it. Obedience training is right around the corner now.

Eight Weeks and Three Days Old (8w.3d)

Leonidas is acclimating nicely to his new home. His first day here was Tuesday, October 7, exactly two months after he was born. He was very quiet, mellow, almost sad. He probably was sad. When we picked him up he was running around with his five other siblings and his mother. At his new home, he has us and the neighbor's (my sister) dog who doesn't like him. I hope when he gets bigger, he will kick her ass off his property :)

He slept with me and Gabe last night. In our bed. Ya, Gabe wasn't thrilled about that but the puppy just wouldn't sleep in his own bed. He was so sad to be in his own bed so he had to sleep in ours. He's just so little still and I was worried that I would roll on him. He tossed and turned all night, pushed us both over to the edge of the bed, flopped on his back with his legs spread out, pushing my legs (or head) out of the way. It wasn't a good night. I am exhausted.

At 6:30 a.m., he had enough of rest and it was time for play. He let us know he was ready for his day... well, he let Gabe know it was time to start his day. He licks and nibbles the nose, cheeks, chin, ears, whatever he touches. It's so cute up until he actually bites something with his razor-sharp puppy teeth, then he's not so stinkin' cute anymore.

His chewing is out of control, but definitely expected. He made me laugh when we were playing with a tennis ball and it rolled past a little wooden table with tall legs. The ball rolled past the legs and he stopped mid-run to chew on one. Ahhhh...puppies.
